Four swivel casters turn on the spot but will not track straight. Two fixed plus two swivel tracks straight over distance — the usual choice for a trolley that gets pushed down a corridor. If it has to stay put, put the brake on the swivel end. The catalogue holds 2,945 swivel and 687 fixed casters, plus 586 wheels on their own for existing brackets.
On an uneven floor one caster always carries less than its share, so the rating needs headroom. The calculator in the finder sidebar uses T = (E + Z) / n × S — E is the equipment weight, Z the payload, n the number of casters, S a safety factor. Catalogue ratings are dynamic values to ISO 22883, which covers applications up to 4 km/h; each product is rated at the design speed shown on its own page (3.2 or 4 km/h). They do not cover long-term static parking, shock loads or towing faster than that speed. Ratings in this catalogue run from 10 kg to 20,000 kg per caster.
Wheel diameter is the single biggest lever on how hard the thing is to push, and on whether it climbs a threshold or stops dead at it — this catalogue runs 25 mm to 400 mm. A soft floor (epoxy, PVC, timber) wants a soft tread; a hard floor where effort matters wants a hard one. The environment decides material rather than size: working temperatures here span −40 °C to 400 °C, and washdown, food contact, static discharge and corrosion each point at a particular wheel-and-bracket combination.
A soft tread (rubber, TPE) is quiet, protects the floor and absorbs shock, but costs effort to push. A hard tread (nylon, cast iron) rolls easily and carries more, but passes noise and shock straight into the equipment and can bruise a soft floor. Polyurethane sits between the two and is the largest group here — 2,021 models, against 1,113 rubber, 754 nylon, 274 polypropylene and 63 cast iron. For the bearing: ball bearings keep swivelling light under load (3,919 models), plain bearings suit slow or occasional movement (174), roller bearings are for heavy loads (134).
